Soordal Prakash, MD, is a Dual Board-Certified physician in both Family Medicine & Geriatrics as well as a skilled aesthetics physician offering expert care with a patient-centered approach. Dr. Prakash leads the team at his private practice, Sunshine Medical Center LLC, in Sarasota, Florida.
Dr. Prakash earned his medical degree from Kerala University, one of India’s top medical schools, graduating within the top 10% of his class. He then completed his surgical training at Calicut Medical College in Kozhikode, India, where he obtained his Master’s Degree in Surgery. Dr. Prakash taught surgery to third and fourth-year medical students while working in the Department of Surgery at Kasturba Medical College (KMC).
To pursue additional surgical training, Dr. Prakash moved to the United Kingdom. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, training in plastic and hand surgery. Dr. Prakash then relocated to the United States and pursued a surgical residency for one year at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in Manhattan.
While in New York, Dr. Prakash decided to change his focus to Family Medicine and Geriatric care to apply his extensive surgical experience and knowledge while also providing compassionate and personal primary care. He completed his family practice residency at Mount Sinai-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey, and his geriatric fellowship at Robert Wood Johnson University, New Brunswick.
After receiving his board certification in both Family Medicine and Geriatrics, Dr. Prakash worked in Wayne and Chester, New Jersey, before moving to Sarasota, Florida, with his family. He then realized his goal of opening a private practice along with his wife, Dr. Shanthi Prakash. Dr. Prakash holds privileges at both Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Doctors Hospital of Sarasota. He also has a love for teaching and is a Clinical Assistant Professor for the Florida State University College of Medicine. He is named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2015.
He is proud to welcome his daughter and son-in-law, Rashmi Prakash, MD and Wien Chan, MD, to the practice.

Shanthi Prakash, MD, is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician offering routine preventative care along with women’s health services with a highly individualized and personable approach. She provides compassionate patient-centered treatments and services to those she treats at Sunshine Medical Center LLC, in Sarasota, Florida.
Dr. Prakash had a longstanding interest in medicine. She was born in the state of Kerala and graduated with honors from Calicut Medical College in Kozhikode, India. Following her graduation, Dr. Prakash completed her Ophthalmology residency at Kasturba Medical College in Manipal.
After her medical training, Dr. Prakash moved to the United Kingdom with her family and focused on raising her children. She then relocated to New Jersey, where she participated in clinical externships and observations in Family Medicine. Dr. Prakash rounded out her medical training with a residency in Family Medicine at Mount Sinai-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey.
Dr. Prakash worked in urgent care clinics in Parsippany and Chester, New Jersey, before moving down to Sarasota, Florida, with her family. Both Drs. Soordal and Shanthi Prakash went on to open their private practice in 2002. Dr. Prakash holds privileges at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Doctors Hospital; she is also a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Florida State University College of Medicine. Dr. Prakash has been named a Castle Connelly Top Doctor since 2015 and is also an awardee of the Exceptional Women in Medicine award in 2020 and 2021.

Rashmi Prakash, MD is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician whose practice is deeply rooted in compassion, cultural awareness, and an integrative approach to health. With a global upbringing that spans India, England, New Jersey, and Sarasota, Florida, Dr. Prakash brings a broad, inclusive perspective to the care she provides.
A graduate of Pine View School here in Sarasota, Dr. Prakash then went on to earn her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences and Behavioral Health from the University of South Florida. From early on, she cultivated a deep interest in the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, and mental health. She went on to earn her medical degree from the American University of Antigua College of Medicine, eventually completing her clinical training in Brooklyn and Staten Island, NY. Working with diverse and underserved populations further shaped her commitment to treating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.
Dr. Prakash completed her Family Medicine residency at Humboldt Park Health Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where she served as Chief Resident. Her training reinforced her belief in the importance of behavioral health integration and community-based care. She now holds admitting privileges at both Sarasota Memorial Hospital and HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital, enabling her to provide comprehensive and continuous care for her patients.
Having returned to her hometown of Sarasota, Dr. Prakash is honored to care for the community that played such a formative role in her life. She lives in Sarasota with her husband, Dr. Wien Chan, and their daughter, and is devoted to supporting individuals and families through compassionate, personalized, and emotionally attuned care across all stages of life.

Born in Valledupar, Colombia and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Chan later moved to Brooklyn, NY, carrying with him a rich cultural perspective. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. John’s University in Queens, New York, and worked as an EMT in Brooklyn and Queens for three years—a pivotal experience that deepened his passion for acute care and laid the foundation for his whole person approach to medical care.
Dr. Chan completed his medical education at the American University of Antigua College of Medicine and returned to urban clinical settings for his Family Medicine residency at Humboldt Park Health Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where he served as Chief Resident. His training reinforced his dedication to compassionate, community-focused care, especially for diverse and underserved populations.
Now based in Sarasota, Dr. Chan holds admitting privileges at both Sarasota Memorial Hospital and HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital, allowing him to maintain continuity of care for his patients from hospital to home. He is committed to building long-term, trusting relationships with patients through individualized care plans and a broad scope of practice that supports whole-person health.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Chan enjoys quality time with his wife, Dr. Rashmi Prakash, and their daughter. He’s also an avid cook, traveler, and lifelong learner.
